FIXTURES & RESULTS

In recent years the club has held a ticket draw for All Ireland tickets in the run up to the Football final in September. This year the Committee has decided to run with a more attractive draw, commencing earlier, with a view to raising sufficient funds to commence some new development around the grounds in 2011.

A small sub committee has been put together to co-ordinate the draw, however if it is to be a success it will need a concerted effort from everyone in the club. We hope to establish teams who over the course of the next six weeks or so will sell tickets at any event of note. We are commencing this weekend with the Ulster Final in Clones. We will also be hoping to capitalise on the numbers that will be attending the Fleadh in mid August.

If you can’t help out on a team hopefully you can sell a number of books on your own. Tickets will be circulated to all households via members, players and underage.

LOTTO RESULTS:

Annual Club Sponsors Night

Killygarry’s annual club sponsors night will take place in the Meadow view Lounge on this Saturday 17th July commencing at 10pm.  It is an opportunity to acknowledge local businesses who contribute financially to the club on an ongoing basis. On the night there will also be a charity fund raising event for Killygarry player Ronan Fitzpatrick who is travelling to Mongolia in the near future. (see article below for full details). This should be a great fun night along with supporting a good cause.  Light refreshments will be served on the night.  Everyone is welcome.

Team Ireland Mongol Rally 2010

On the 22nd of July, Ronan Fitzpatrick is leaving Ireland with the final destination being Ulaan Baatar, the capital of Mongolia. Ronan is completing the trip as part of Team Ireland, to raise money for three charities, the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation, the Society of St Vincent De Paul and Adventures for Development.

The Christina Noble Children’s Foundation is dedicated to serving children in need of emergency and long-term medical care, nutritional rehabilitation, job replacement opportunities, job placement and protecting those at risk of economic and sexual exploitation.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the largest, voluntary, charitable organisation in Ireland. Its membership of 9,500 volunteers throughout the country are supported by professional staff, working for social justice and the creation of a more just, caring nation

The chosen transport is a 2002 Ford Transit LWB, which upon arrival, together with all equipment, will be donated to the third charity, Adventures for Development, a charity working with local communities and underprivileged children in Mongolia.

On the 17th of July, Ronan is holding a fundraiser in the Meadow View, with all proceeds going directly to the aforementioned charities. Your support at the event would be greatly appreciated.

Weekend Match Reports:

 Division 3: Killygarry 0-4 Swanlinbar 2-21

A vastly under strength Killygarry team travelled the long journey to Swanlinbar on Sunday evening with the home side needing only a draw to clinch promotion. The game started badly for Killygarry with the home side scoring 1-2 early on, it was at this point that Killygarry got their first point of the half from mid-fielder Ciaran Crowe . However this proved to be as good as it got for Killygarry in the first half as Swanlinbar took control of the game and scored eight points without reply as the home side went in at half-time with a commanding lead of 1-10 to a 0-1.

The home side were again much the stronger in the second half, increasing their lead from the start. Swanlinbar scored a number of points without reply and then got themselves another goal before Killygarry got their first score of the half from a Thomas Leonard score on the run. Frank Crowe added to this and shortly after a Ciaran Crowe free was the last score of the game for Killygarry.

Killygarry: R.Fitzpatrick, M.Greaney, P.Reilly, A.King, C.Conaty, P.Fay, R.Sheridan,  P.Hyland, C.Crowe(0-2 1f),S.Maloney, T.Leonard(0-1) , F.Crowe(0-1), F.Brides, B.McGovern, R.Galligan.  Subs: D.Dunne, C.McGovern, D.Hancox, A.McGearty, D.McCahill.

Division 3A Killygarry 0-8 Swanlinbar 1-11

Killygarry also suffered defeat in their 3A encounter with Swanlinbar. They were on the backfoot when they conceded an early goal and despite their best efforts they could never make up this lost ground.

Killygarry:  D.McCahill, L.Allen, F.McCoy, M.Flood, C.Kelly, P.Farrelly,  C.Fitzpatrick, C.McGovern(0-1), A.McGearty(0-1), D.Dunne(0-5), G.McGovern, F.Brides, D.Hancox. Subs: N.Brady, C.Lynch(0-1), S.Sheridan, D.Flynn, G.Keenan.

Underage Corner

Under 8 & 10 Football.

Training continues on Saturdays from 10.30am to 11.30am at our home grounds in Crubany. Details of any possible matches will be sent by text during the week. Contact Paul Leonard (087-6800233) for info.

Under 11 Football.

Training continues on Tuesdays from 6.30pm to 7.40pm in Crubany. The squad are taking part in a series of under 12 summer blitzes organised by Cavan Coaching & Games and acquitted themselves very well in Terry Coyle Park last Monday (5th) against Cavan Gaels and Ballyhaise. This week's blitz is in Ballyhaise at 7pm on Monday (12th). The final group stage blitz will take place on Monday (19th) next in Crubany and there will be a super blitz in late August in Kingspan Breffni Park. Contact Stephen McGovern (086-3686698) for info.

Under 13 Football.

Last week's league game v Lacken was postponed as Killygarry's squad is depleted at the moment due to the large number of players on holidays. Their next fixture is on Thursday (15th) away to Laragh United at 7.30pm but may be postponed for the same reason. Training continues on Saturdays at 11.30am and Tuesdays at 6.30pm. Contact Declan Gilsenan (087-1343128) for info.

Under 16 Football.

The u16's face Laragh United on Tuesday (13th) in the quarter-final of the Division 2 Championship in Stradone (throw-in at 8pm). Again a few absentees due to holidays leave Killygarry at below full strength for this game but hopefully they can progress to the last four stage of the competition. The team had a useful run-out against Drumalee last Friday (9th) in terrible conditions and came away with a good ten point victory. Contact Padraig Gannon (086-1935228) for info.

Minor Football.

The u18's played Ballinagh in a challenge game in Crubany last Monday in preparation for their Minor Championship in August. Ballinagh easily accounted for the home side over the hour as Killygarry looked out of sorts from the first whistle. Training continues on Thursday evening (time TBC). Contact Kevin Smith (086-0810277) for info.

Ladies:

Féile 2010:

The under 14 girls took part in the finals of Féile na nÓg in Derry where they put in a tremendous effort and were a credit to their Club and County on and off the field.

After winning their first two games against local sides Limavady and Castledawson the girls met St Brides of Louth in their remaining group game.

This was a truly pulsating contest between two very evenly matched teams. After a nervy start for Killygarry, they settled well and got some great scores. With full time up Killygarry were leading by two points but unfortunately luck was against us on the day with the referee playing 7 minutes over time. St Brides converted a late penalty that sent them into the semi finals. This left the girls devastated and put an end to their dream of reaching an All Ireland Semi Final. The girls were rightly applauded as they left the field by our host Limavady and our travelling supporters.

Well done to Eimear Connolly who represented Killygarry in the skills competition and performed very well and finished in second place.

Thanks to our host club Limavady who were excellent hosts and took great care of all the girls throughout the weekend. There were many friendships formed with the host families and Limavady club members throughout the weekend. We look forward to returning this hospitality when they visit our club for a game in August. On the last evening Louise Smith made a presentation to Limavady to show our appreciation of all their hard work throughout the weekend.
